Control Energy Costs

Over 3 years, this custom web application was built from scratch to replace ageing software.

The system was built to record all Control Energy Costs’ client information, taking in meter readings from their electricity, gas and water meter readings from Excel files and incorporating them in the database to produce user specific various different on-screen and downloadable reports. Staff would then log in to the system to find information, upload data and then use the data to save their clients money.

Involved in the full range of the project requirements from specification to development and implementation, for the last 18 months I had sole responsibility and control.

In terms of development, the site was built around a custom PHP Framework and then a normalised relational database was put together in MySQL. The development code was on GitHub so that all changes were mapped and checked before going onto the live system.

Initially hosted locally on an on-site server, the application was then put online using a cloud solution from AWS as the system was business critical, but also to enable remote access and access by their clients.
